Katharine Hepburn
I am starting a new series for the women that influenced my life.
First up is Katharine Hepburn.
Katharine Hepburn’s career covered over 60 years. She made her final screen appearance in 1994 at the age of 87.
She was well known for playing intelligent, empowered and sophisticated women.
She won four Academy Awards, the record number for a performer, and had a total of 12 Oscar nominations for Best Actress—a number surpassed only by Meryl Streep. Hepburn also holds the record for the longest time span between first and last Oscar nominations, at 48 years. (Wikipedia)
I loved that Katharine often played the strong, independent woman.
As a data geek, my favorite film is Desk Set where Katharine played a reference librarian, Bunny Watson. She ran circles around Spencer Tracy’s character, Richard Sumner. One of the best of the Hepburn-Tracy films!
The fact that she played such modern women in her time is pretty amazing to me.
And she got to star with some of the most famous leading men of Hollywood.
So I am giving Katharine Hepburn my Athena Award.
Athena is the goddess of wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, law and justice, strategic warfare, mathematics, strength, strategy, the arts, crafts, and skill.(https://greekgodsandgoddesses.net/)
I think that pretty much sums it up!
