Anyone who has reads my blog will have see multiple posts about Brené Brown and her work.
From her books to her Ted talks, to her Netflix special, Brené is always speaking in a language I can relate to.
I am a scientific researcher by training myself. So when I first learned about Brené and her work, I listened with the ear of a researcher to understand her methodology and her analysis.
Then I let myself hear what she had to say about shame, vulnerability, and living a true authetic life.
I loved that she gives examples of what resilient, vulnerable and authentic people have in common. It helped me to identify places where I could stretch myself to do more and be more
I also love that she is an east Texas girl and lives and does her work in Houston.
She is always sharing stories of her life and admits to how she often doesn’t measure up to the ideals of her research findings. But she is always willing to self-assess and make changes when necessary. She shows us how to live our lives to more connected-ness and compassion and empathy by sharing her slips and missing with us.
As a creative, I particularly enjoyed the talk she gave at 99U for the artists/creatives at 99 Designs. Knowing how to deal with critics from her perspective was uplifting!
She is a role model and an inspiration for me to always try to be my best self.
I am grateful for women like Brené who are taking a stand to present what they know needs to be shared with courage.
