The Courage to Heal has been a critical resource on my healing journey from childhood abuse.
To put it simply, it helped me reclaim my life. I would not be experiencing a life of Thriving if I had not found The Courage to Heal.
I still have my third edition, 1994 copy with all the highlights, notes, and tear stains! And I also have a copy of the 2008 20th Anniversary edition.
I highlight The Courage to Heal in my book Thriving After Sexual Abuse book as being the most profound book on my recovery from sexual abuse.
I believe that if someone reading my book can only do two things for their healing journey, they should be: work with a mental health professional and read The Courage to Heal.
The Amazon description: “First published in 1988, the groundbreaking The Courage to Heal: A Guide for Women Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse has been completely revised, updated, and expanded for its 20th Anniversary edition. Considered “a classic” and “the bible of healing from child sexual abuse,” this inspiring, comprehensive and compassionate guide provides a map of support of the healing journey and a lifeline for millions. Weaving together personal experience with professional knowledge, the authors provide clear explanations, practical suggestions, strategies, and support throughout the survival healing process — as well as help, hope and reassurance for families, friends, and caregivers. Readers will feel recognized and encouraged by hundreds of moving first-person accounts drawn from interviews and the author’s extensive work with survivors, both nationally and internationally.”
All you need do is read the review comments on Amazon to know that this description is not hype.
An excerpt from Rachel’s review sums up what I and many women who have read the book feel:
“…Get ready to feel validated, get ready to feel like its ok to feel its ok to be human. And most of all this book will change your life forever! You will experience reincarnation…”
If you want to sample the book before you read, I recommend going to Amazon and clicking on the cover image to open the LOOKINSIDE! view.
This LOOKINSIDE view is more than just a few pages from the beginning of the book. It actually has hyperlinks for EACH chapter so you can read a bit from every part of the book.
If you are considering starting your healing journey from sexual abuse, or even if you are already on your healing journey, The Courage To Heal is a book that will support your work to move from survivor to thriver!
